University of Abuja, the library staff are being trained on Using Social Network Platforms for library services such as:
Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Mendeley and Zotero reference management systems were also introduced to the participants as a way of preparing them for a more robust training in the future. The resource person, Helen Okpala began by relating the essence of social media in library services and why libraries need to key into this trend as it has been observed that most library users are on social media and invest more time chatting and sharing ideas. Most libraries abroad are on social media and connecting with their users. The essence of the training is to let the librarians know the relevance of blogs, twitter, Facebook, Mendeley and Zotero in Librarianship. The social media platforms are what they should use to reach out to their patrons while the Reference Management Systems are for reference building and building researcher profiles for collaboration and publicising of academic works.
